Sales attendant granted bail for stealing

The Winneba District Magistrate Court has granted bail to in the sum of GHC 5,000 to a sales attendant in Winneba for stealing.

Francis Arthur aged 22, a native of Winneba pleaded not guilty and he is to re-appear on May, 31st 2018.

Narrating the facts before the court presided over by Mr. Isaac Apeatu, Detective Police Inspector Peter Agbelie said the complainant in the case is one Mr. James Armah and Albert Ninson both being building contractors while the accused Arthur is a sales attendant at a cement shop located near Town Hall, a suburb of Winneba.

The prosecution said, on 31th March, 2018 Mr. Armah went to the accused’s shop and deposited a cash of GHc 1, 350.00 for 50 bags of cement, took a receipt and agreed to come for the cement later.

According to the prosecution the accused failed to record the amount he received in his sales book and appropriated the said cash.

Detective Police Inspector Agbelie said after some days Mr. Albert Ninson also went to the accused shop and deposited cash in the sum of GHc 250.00 equivalent to 9 bags of cement to be collected later but again the accused failed to record same, also appropriated the money and locked the shop.

Several calls were made to get in touch with the accused but this proved futile, the prosecution said.

On 14th May, 2018, Mr Armah saw the accused in Winneba township and reported the matter to the Police where he was arrested.

Accused admitted the offence in his caution statement and after investigation he was arraigned.
