Robbers kill one trader in Tatale

Some unidentified men believed to be armed robbers last Thursday attacked and killed one trader on the Tatale-Yendi road.

The traders were returning from the Sangba Market in a KIA Rino vehicle with registration number AS 4676 -14 when they were intercepted by the armed men near Bikonkonlibe in the Tatale Sanguli District of the Northern Region and allegedly shot and killed one woman whilst others sustained gunshot wounds.

Speaking to the GNA at the Yendi Municipal Hospital, one of the victims, Mrs Rafia Seidu said the masked robbers gave warning shots when the vehicle approached a road block mounted by the robbers, but the driver ignored it and continued driving.

She said the armed robbers then shot into the front of the vehicle and the bullets hit her shoulder, the driver’s neck and another woman, Hajia Sharifa.

She said the driver gathered courage and drove to the Tatale Police Station and made a report whilst the wounded were taken to the Tatale Poly Clinic and were immediately referred to the Yendi Municipal Hospital.

The dead person was identified as Hajia Sharifa Inusah, wife of the Tatale Zongo Chief, Alhaji Inusah Sittu and had since been buried at Tatale.

The driver of the vehicle, Mustawu Osama, who is in a critical condition had been referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital. No arrest had been made.

Mr Nicholas Waake, the Tatale-Sangule District Chief Executive said that particular spot on the Tatale - Zabzugu road has become a hide out for armed robbers, describing the incident as the fourth in the area.

Mr Waake appealed for more police personnel and a patrol vehicle for the Tatale-Sanguli District to help combat crime in the district and to save lives and property.
