Police warns perpetrators of violence at Agbogbloshie

Accra, Aug. 25, GNA - The Police administration on Tuesday warned perpetrators of violence at Agbogbloshie in Accra to stop the criminal act immediately.

A statement issued in Accra by the Director of Public Affairs, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kwasi Ofori, said "the police would take reasonable steps such as arrests and prosecutions to stop the violence. The police will not allow any person or group of persons to import violence into the capital city".

It said the police were at Agbogbloshie to de-escalate the violence and assured the public that efforts were being made to protect lives and property at the market area.

The police appealed to chiefs and opinion leaders in and around Agbogbloshie to advise their kinsmen and followers to desist from the criminal act.

An eyewitness account told Ghana News Agency that three people were reported dead in the violence, while several people received various degrees of injuries.
