Police warn those harbouring Atronie suspects

Sunyani, April 13 GNA- The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command has warned members of the general public harbouring suspects in the Atronie murder case to produce them or face arrest if found out. The youth of Atronie, near Sunyani fled the town after the murder of Mr. Anthony Yeboah Boateng, the former P residing Member of Asunafo North District Assembly on Easter Sunday.

In a statement signed by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kwaku Ayensu Opare, Regional Police Commander, the Command said it had come to the notice of the police that some people were keeping some suspects in their homes. It therefore warned that anyone found to be keeping any resident of Atronie at home would be arrested and charged with harbouring a criminal. The statement also appealed to the public to assist the police with information for the arrest of the suspects to face the law. Meanwhile the police in Sunyani arrested two more suspects on Friday, bringing number to 70 suspects arrested so far. Chief Inspector Christian Tetteh Yohuno told the GNA that the police had information of the return of the two suspects to the town from their hideout and rushed there to arrest them. E.K. Ampong, husband of the queenmother of Atronie and Kweku Yeboah, have been placed in custody and will be arraigned before court on Monday, he added.

The late Mr. Boateng, who was also the administrator of the Goaso government hospital was attacked and assaulted to death at about 2130 hours on Easter Sunday by the youth at Atronie as he, his wife and a Roman Catholic Sister were conveying the corpse of his aunt from Sunyani to Goaso in his car. 13 April 07
