Police seize three suspected robbers

The police have arrested and detained three men including an ex-convict, linked to series of robbery attacks on travelers in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Commander, gave their names as Akwasi Frimpong, alias “Alhassan (the jailbird), Isaac Boateng, alias “Okey”, a taxi driver, and Frank Osei, alias Obese, a trader.

One of them would pose as a taxi driver and others pretend to be passengers, to deceive unsuspecting people join them in the car and rob them of their cash, phones and other valuables.

The Commander told a news briefing that the trio had within the past eight months carried out 20 robberies.

The last happened on last Saturday, November 28, at about 2100 hours.

DCOP Kofi Boakye said the police patrol team at Suntreso received information that the suspects had picked a passenger in their taxi and driving towards the Ahodwo roundabout and the officers swiftly responded.

The suspects began speeding, when they spotted the approaching patrol team and they were given a hot road chase.

At a point, they were forced to abandon the taxi, leaving behind the passenger, and attempted to escape on foot but they were prevented.

DCOP Kofi Boakye said the police recovered a phone, the suspects had stolen from the passenger.

He called on the people to remain vigilant and ensure that they joined vehicles at authorized stations.
