The Ashanti Regional Police Command has recovered an AK-47 assault rifle, ammunition, and other suspicious items from an abandoned vehicle near Bekwai.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 17, 2025, when officers from the Kuntanase District Patrol Team spotted a white Toyota Sienta parked suspiciously along the Aputuoagya–Bekwai road.
Two individuals fled the scene upon noticing the police, abandoning the vehicle and its contents.
The recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, a locally manufactured firearm, loaded magazines, and ammunition.
The vehicle has since been impounded at the Kuntanase Police Station, with all recovered items retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
In a press release on Monday, August 18, 2025, the Ashanti Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to preventing violent crime and ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
The police also urged members of the public with information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects to report to the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers 191, 18555, or 112.
