Police officer loses two fingers while examining robber's dagger

Kumasi, Nov. 29, GNA 96 A police officer lost two of his fingers in the cause of examining a dagger used by suspected armed robbers, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Frank Adu-Poku, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, told journalists in Kumasi on Tuesday. He said the officer, who was among a patrol team at Ayigya, a suburb of Kumasi, was receiving treatment.

ACP Adu-Poku said on November 26, this year, the Police had a tip-off that a robbery was taking place at Ayigya.

He said the patrol team at the time responded and intercepted the suspected robbers in an Urvan bus bearing registration number AS 4363 R and being driven by one Daniel Appiah.

His accomplices, Elija Mohammed alias 'Lion' or Charles Taylor, Yaw Nkrumah, 29, and Fuseini Mohammed, 21, were also on the bus. The regional police chief said during a search, four live cartridges were retrieved from 'Lions' pocket in addition to two locally-manufactured pistols, a dagger and a kitchen knife.

He said the suspects were 0apprehended and sent to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) police station. ACP Adu-Poku said further police investigation will be conducted and they will be put before court soon.
