Police intercept four bags of wee

Accra, Aug. 14, GNA - Police Highway Patrol Team at the weekend intercepted four maxi bags of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp on the Accra-Nkawkaw road.

The leaves, whose value is not immediately known, were found in an Opel Astra taxicab with registration number GR 7773 R. Mr Ernest Owusu Donkor, Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of the Unit, said the team saw the taxicab speeding towards Nsawam with one passenger in it.

He said the Police signalled the cabbie to stop but he parked about 100 metres from where the Police were. The driver of the vehicle then took to his heels leaving behind the passenger, Mohammed Iddrisu, 51, from Darkuman in Accra.

Mr Donkor said Iddrisu claimed ownership of the leaves and he was arrested. He said the leaves were given to him by one Salifu at a village near Koforidua.

Police said the driver Kwadwo Antwi, 20, from Kubease has been arrested by the Police with the assistance of the owner of the car, a resident of Koforidua. Mr Donkor said Police investigations were continuing.
