Police hunt for armed robber

Kumasi, Oct 21, GNA- The Kumasi police are hunting for one Mambolla, a member of an armed gang who stabbed a police detective when they were being arrested by the police for attempting to rob one Kwasi Yeboah at New Tafo last Saturday.

Detective Sergeant E. Asamoah who sustained serious injuries in the left palm from the stabbing, is on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

Two members of the gang, who were arrested, were on Wednesday put before a Kumasi circuit court for robbery.

Alhassan Moro, 23, and Alhaji Kankani, 25, whose pleas were not taken were remanded in prison custody to re-appear on November 3. Police Inspector Seth Amofa told the court that at about 2300 hours on Saturday, police received a tip-off that some armed robbers had stormed New Tafo and were firing indiscriminately.

He said Sergeant Asamoah and other policemen were detailed to the scene and on seeing the police, the robbers who had almost succeeded in robbing one Kwasi Yeboah of his taxi, started firing.

Inspector Amofah said the police returned fire and sensing danger, the robbers took to their heels but the police chased them and succeeded in arresting Moro and Kankani but Mambolla managed to escape after stabbing Sergeant Asamoah in the left palm.
