The Bono Regional Police Command has recovered five assorted firearms following an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected robbery gangs operating within the region.
According to a police statement, the Command received intelligence on February 11, 2026, indicating that a gang was planning an attack on traders travelling along the Dormaa–Gonokrom highway.
Surveillance teams were immediately deployed to thwart the planned robbery.
In the early hours of February 12, 2026, officers advancing towards a parked motorbike came under fire from assailants hiding in nearby bushes.
The police returned fire. At daybreak, a search of the area led to the discovery of one male suspect, who had sustained gunshot wounds, with an AK-47 rifle beside him.
A further search uncovered a sack containing a cache of weapons and other items.
These included two Baikal single-barrel guns, a pump-action gun and a Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition, along with an additional 34 loose rounds.
Police also retrieved an AK-47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition, with 10 additional rounds found separately.
In addition, officers recovered 39 rounds of BB cartridges, a dagger, a mobile phone, a Honda motorbike, a black mask and a set of talismans.
The body of the deceased suspect has been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification and autopsy.
The Bono Regional Police Command has assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
The Command has also appealed to the general public to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of individuals involved in criminal activities, as it continues to work to enhance safety and security across the region.
