Police arrests student for washing vehicle on street

Wenchi (B/A), May 4, GNA - The police on Sunday arrested and detained Master Kwame Fosu, a 20 year-old final year student of Koase Secondary/Technical School, near Wenchi in Brong Ahafo, for unlawfully washing a taxicab on the T.A. Busia Road at Wenchi.

They released him later in the day after giving him a stern warning never to do that again.

The student's arrest followed a warning by the management of Wenchi Urban Council, under the chairmanship of Mr. Adu Agyarko Pinsang to drivers to desist from washing their vehicles on that road, which they were gradually turning into a washing bay.

Mr. Pinsang had complained to the police that some of the drivers had taken the council for a ride, for in spite of the warnings given them they had continued to wash their vehicles on that road. The Chairman explained that the student was arrested because about three weeks ago the driver, Mr. Kwabena Nti was warned not to wash the vehicle in the area but he ignored the warning and ordered the student to do so.

He said but for the fact that Fosu was a student and was taking the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, he would have been prosecuted at the court to serve as a deterrent to other drivers.

Mr. Pinsang appealed to residents of Wenchi to report to the police or the council any driver found washing a vehicle on the T.A. Busia road.
