Police arrests fraudster, accomplice on the run

Cape Coast, March 12, GNA - Saeed Yankey, an alleged fraudster who claimed to be a worker at the Western Regional Education Office in Takoradi has been arrested by the police. Yankey and his accomplice, Joseph Akpoh, a corn mill operator attempted to defraud the owner of a popular hotel in Cape Coast.

According to the Central Region Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Raymond Asaaba, the two, both natives of Axim, approached Mr Kwamena Walker, Proprietor of the Cape Coast Hotel, claiming someone who borrowed GH¢1,000.00 from Yankey through Akpoh had asked them to collect the money from him. He said Mr Walker became suspicious and when he attempted to call the police, Akpoh took to his heels leaving behind a bag.

Mr Asaaba said when it was searched, plain papers cut into the sizes of GH¢5.00 were found in it. He said Yankey was arrested by the police and when he was interrogated he denied knowledge of the bag, saying he only followed his friend to collect his money.

Mr Asaaba said Yankey was currently in police custody while efforts are being made to arrest Akpoh.
