The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested nine suspects and recovered four service weapons after some youth attacked police officers at Saawie in the Jirapa Municipality.
A police statement said that on Friday, December 5, a mob of about 30 residents assaulted officers who were conducting enquiries in the community, seized four service rifles, and injured three officers.
The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, led a reinforcement team to the area, rescued the injured officers, and retrieved all four weapons.
Efforts are underway to recover two missing magazines, the statement said.
It said two injured officers had been treated and discharged, while one with a fractured arm had been referred to the Wa Regional Hospital.
The Command condemned the attack and assured the public of firm measures to protect officers and residents.
It also urged residents of Saawie and surrounding communities to support investigations and provide information to help arrest additional suspects and recover outstanding items.
