Palm wine tapper jailed for indecent assault

Ibrahim Tetteh, a 34 year-old palm wine tapper, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment in hard labour for indecently assaulting a 30 year-old drinking spot operator.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court, presided over by Mr. Justice Michael Cudjoe, that the complainant operated a drinking spot at Dompim, and lived in the same neighbourhood with Tetteh, who was her customer.

According to Inspector Amponsah, about six months ago, Tetteh purchased, on credit, Five Ghana cedis worth of local gin from the woman and promised to pay within the shortest possible time, but he failed to do so.

He said two months later, she requested the money from Tetteh.

Tetteh told her that the money on him was only 50 Ghana cedis notes, so she should follow him to his house for the money.

Inspector Amponsah said when they got home Tetteh invited the complainant into his room and locked the door.

He pulled her into his bed room and attempted to rape her, but she refused and struggled with him.

The Prosecutor said the convict demanded a kiss from the complainant before allowing her to leave his room.

He said the complainant who needed her freedom complied before she was freed.

She later made a report to the Police and the accused was arrested and was charged for attempted rape.
