Nsawam Police arrests four suspects for murder

Nsawam (E/R), June 15, GNA - Four people including a woman have been arrested by the Nsawam police, in connection with the murder of Mr Victor Awakye a 67-year-old educationist who was founded dead in his farm at Otukwadjo/Boaheemkrom in the Akuapem South District on Saturday. The suspects are Kwaku Ampi, 40, Madam Abena Ntowaa Antwi, 45, Paul Asare, 38 and Yaw Yevornu, 35, all farmers at Otukwadjo, a town near Nsawam.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Chief Inspector Ernest Dei Ofei in charge of the Police Criminal Investigations Division at Nsawam, said the deceased was a retired tutor of the Akropong Teacher Training College, who took farming as his career. He said one Opanyin Antwi, released the farming land to the deceased at Otukwadjo who cultivated palm plantation, citrus and other cash crops on the farm.

Chief Inspector Ofei said the deceased went to his farm last Saturday (June 13) but failed to return home. A search party organized by the community to look for Mr Awakye, spotted his decomposing body on his farm. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been conveyed to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy, while the suspects have been remanded in police custody. 15 June 09
