Notorious criminal kills one policeman and wounds two

Tamale, Oct. 18, GNA - Three police officers had been shot at Nakpanduri in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District by Johnson Kombian alias 'Borger' killing one on the spot and two are in critical condition and are on admission at the Nalerigu Baptist Medical Centre.

General Constable Prince Agyare, who was killed, and Lance Corporal Osei Bonsu and General Constable Owusu Frimpong, in critical conditions, were on patrol duties on Sunday using a private motor bike when the incident happened.

Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh, the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, told the GNA the police were preparing to airlift the injured to Accra for further treatment.

"Johnson Kombian Kakum has been a torn in our flesh and we are strategizing to get him arrested", he said.

Chief Inspector Tetteh said he had been ambushing and terrorizing residents and traders along the Nakpanduri, Nalerigu, Bunkpurugu areas and goes into hiding.

He said residents had not been helpful to the police in their attempt to arrest the hardened criminal saying that "Any time we make attempts, residents leak information to the criminal".

He said the police were under resourced, compelling the officers to use the motor bike for patrol duties, adding that

the police were also investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and appealed to the public to volunteer information to enable the police to nab Kakum.

Kakum broke jail from the Tamale Prisons in January and had also broken jail at Yendi, Gambaga, Togo and twice in Tamale.
