Notorious criminal arrested in Suhum

Suhum, Feb. 5, GNA- The Suhum Magistrate's court, presided over by Mr C. M. Essandoh have sentenced one Abdul Razak to a fine of GH¢1,000 or in default two years imprisonment for stealing a DVD, a 24-inch colour television set and a mobile phone.

Razak, whom the police described as one of the notorious criminals harassing the people of Suhum and its surrounding villages pleaded guilty and was sentenced on his own plea.

The accused, who has three other stealing cases before the court, is to be arraigned before the court to face the charges. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Ben Brew, said the complainant was a businessman and that on November 21 last year, when he was asleep in the night, the accused broke the main door of his room and stole the items. He said the complainant, who heard an unusual noise in his room raised an alarm, but the accused took to his heels and abandoned the television set midway during the chase and bolted. Chief Inspector Brew said a report was made to the police, who with the help of Ghana Telecom called the number of the stolen phone. The girl friend of the accused responded to the call, and was traced to her location. The girl was then arrested and she led the police to her lover's hide-out.
