Nkoranza police arrest alleged human trafficker

A 35-year-old business woman has been arrested for allegedly transporting eight children between the ages of six and 16 to the Ashanti Region in Kumasi.

Georgina Owusuaa, of Akumsa-Domase near Nkoranza, was arrested by the Nkoranza Police earlier today and is currently being held at the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service pending further investigations.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Joseph Owusu, Nkoranza Municipal Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency Mr Kofi Sarfo, from Akumsa-Domase, reported his 11-year-old son, Master Godbless Adjei-Sarfo, had been taken away by the suspect without his consent.

Other parents reported similar incidents and police told Mr Sarfo to trace his son in Kumasi and other following a tip off regarding Owususaa.

DPS Nkoranza said Mr Safaro alleged the suspect told people that he was a thief and organized men to brutally beat him. He was eventually saved by personnel from Suame Police Station, Kumasi, who arrested the suspect.

Owusuaa told the GNA that she has a cultural troupe in Kumasi, where she trains young children in traditional drumming and dancing during weekends and that is where she was taking them after they had expressed interest.
