Nine arrested for causing unrest in Kusi discharged

The Kade District Magistrate’s court has discharged nine persons who appeared before it on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, acts tending to disturb the peace in a public place and assault as well as unlawful assembly at Kusi.

Their discharge followed instructions in a letter from the Police Headquarters to the Akwatia police asking that their docket should be forwarded for further action.

The accused persons include Nana Karikari Yeboah, the Krontihene of Kusi, Benkyi Kwame, Yaw Thomas, Forson Kwabena, Kwasi Adu, Yaw Akome Kwabena Owusu, Twum Ampofo and Karikari Sarpong.

They were on Ghc10,000 bail each.

At an earlier sitting, Police Inspector Essel told the court presided over by Abdul Majid Iliasu that at about 0300 hours on August 6, the police had information that the Krontihene of Kusi had organised some men to disturb the peace in the town amidst firing of guns and singing of war songs.

He said they also slaughtered a ram to signify that the chief of the town had been destooled.

The prosecutor said based on the information, policemen were dispatched to the town.

The accused persons were served with criminal summons to appear before court.
