Murdered Dutch woman: Second suspect arrested

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested one Benjamin Akamule for his involvement in a robbery incident that took place on March 8, at New Sebrepor near Ashaiman, in which a Dutch woman was shot and killed.

This brings to two the number of suspects arrested by the Tema Police in the robbery incident.

The first suspect, Gideon Mikado, was arrested by the police on March 12 at New Sebrepor where the robbery occurred.

Briefing newsmen at his office in Tema on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Maxwell Atingane said Mikado is now on remand at Nsawam Prisons while Akamule, who is in police custody in Tema, would soon be put before court for prosecution.

DCOP Atingane said on that fateful day, the two suspects with two others now at large robbed a 25-year-old Dutch national, Afke Kuipers, when she and six others were returning from Sege near Ada on a Ford Wagon saloon car at about 1600 hours.

The Tema Regional Police Commander said just some few metres to their residence the suspects, on unregistered motorbikes, crossed and forced them to stop.

DCOP Atingane said they robbed Kuipers of her two mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money.

DCOP Atingane said they then shot Kuipers on the left chest and she later died at the Tema General Hospital where she was rushed for treatment.

According to the Tema Regional Police Commander, the body of the deceased has since been released to the Netherlands Embassy.

He said the Police would do everything possible to arrest the two other suspects now on the run.

DCOP Atingane assured the public that the Police would continue to give them the necessary security and urged them to volunteer information on criminals to the Police for their arrest and prosecution.
