Murder suspect arrested after six years on the run

Aflao, June 07, GNA - An Aflao based businessman who allegedly murdered a young woman he accused of mocking him six year ago and absconded has been nabbed.

Dopley Woxemor Akligo, 43, appeared before an Aflao Circuit Court on Friday and was also found to have cultivated a plant suspected to be Indian hemp in his house.

His plea was not taken and the court remanded him prison custody until July 28, this year.

Police Chief Inspector Kofi Frimpong told the court that the deceased, Atsupui Kofitse, then 19, an apprentice in bakery, was resident at Avoeme as the accused.

He said on June 08, the deceased and one other baker saw Akligo in the company of others weeding.

Mr Frimpong said the posture of Akligo, who was sweating profusely with no shirt on, amused the deceased and her colleague who both laughed. This attracted the anger of the accused who wanted to assault them but was prevented by eyewitnesses. He said Akligo followed later to the bakery where he repeatedly slapped the deceased and hit her in the left rib with a club. The prosecutor said the deceased fell unconscious was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead.
