Mason remanded for having sex with mental patient

Accra, July 15, GNA - A 32-year-old mason, Mensah Agbeyizah, was on Friday remanded into police custody by the Accra Circuit Court for allegedly having sex with a 20-year-old mental patient. The court did not take the plea of Agbeyizah, who has been charged with carnal knowledge of a female mental patient. He is to reappear on July 20.

The prosecutor, Inspector I.A.A. Ahor told the court presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah Datsa that the victim and the accused resided at Pokuase in Accra.

He said at about 1730 hours on April 6 this year, the victim was on her way to buy food in the vicinity when Agbeyizah lured her into his room for the night and had sex with her. The following day, the prosecution said, the accused asked the victim to go home.

Meanwhile, the father of the victim, who was searching for his daughter, was told by some tenants that his daughter had returned home.

During interrogation, the victim told her father and other tenants about the ordeal the accused person took her through. The prosecution said the victim's father lodged a complainant with the Police at Pokuase.

The prosecutor said the accused was arrested and sent to the Domestic Violence and Victim's Support Unit at Tesano in Accra for further investigation.
