Mason goes to jail for stealing

Kumasi, Aug 3, GNA - A mason who stole the 'Susu' passbook of an electrician and withdrew 3.4 million cedis from it at the Bosomtwe Rural Bank has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by a Kumasi circuit court for unlawful entry and stealing.

Kwadwo Otu pleaded guilty to the charges.

Police Chief Inspector Joseph Odjidja told the court that on June 14, Otu entered the electrical shop of Mr Amos Asante, the complainant, and stole his 'susu' passbook.

Having secured the passbook, he said, the accused went to the Bosomtwe Rural Bank where Mr Asante saves and withdrew 3.4 million cedis from his savings.

Two days later, Mr Asante detected the loss of his passbook and reported it to the bank that informed him that one Kwadwo Otu had withdrawn some money from his savings using the passbook. Police arrested out and during interrogation, he admitted the offence. The police retrieved two million cedis out of the amount Otu withdrew.
