The Marine Department of Ghana Police Service has expressed worry over the increasing spate of illegal means by some Ghanaians to travel abroad at the Takoradi Harbour in the Western Region.

Five (5) separate cases have been recorded so far with more than ten (10) people arrested, with heavy fines and prosecuted by a Takoradi Magistrate court.

Speaking exclusively to Ultimate news’ Western Regional Correspondent, Emmanuel Ohene Gyan, Director of Marine Police Chief Supt Samuel Owusu Bekoe recalled that his outfit recorded a total of six (6) cases for the whole of 2015.

He, therefore, called on key stakeholders in the industry to educate the youth within New–Takoradi and other communities close to the Takoradi Harbour to refrain from such acts since it could give the Takoradi Port a bad name.

Supt. Bekoe is worried that if the trend of stowaway is not checked, some unscrupulous persons could take advantage of the development to destabilize the peace in the country through terrorism.
