Man to be prosecuted for assault and littering

Agona Swedru (C/R), March 27, GNA - A man, who assaulted another for daring to ask him to pick a litter he had dropped would soon be arraigned, the Agona Swedru Police told the Ghana News Agency at the weekend.

The Police said Nicholas Appiah, 35, who claimed to have just returned from Amsterdam, Netherlands, assaulted Mr Eric Sam, TV Three Cameraman based in Agona Swedru, for asking him to pick an empty water sachet he had dropped at the Chapel Square in the town. They said Appiah would be put before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court on Tuesday for assault and littering.

Speaking to the GNA Mr Sam said while covering a cleanup exercise being carried out by members of the local Assembly of God Church, he saw Appiah, who was sitting a car dropping the litter, and he asked him to pick it up but he refused.

Mr Sam said he then picked the litter and dropped it in the car and this infuriated Appiah, who came down to punch him. He said the Central Regional Pastor of the Church, the Reverend Arko Nunoo tried to intervene but Appiah continued to punch him so he reported the matter to the Police.

Addressing the about 100 church members, who took part in the cleanup, after the exercise, Rev Nunoo said it formed part of activities the Church had lined up for its 75th anniversary.
