Man jailed one year for stealing

The Winneba District Magistrate Court has jailed an 18-year-old unemployed for one year in hard labour for stealing a 32-inch Samsung plasma television set and a Samsung home theatre from a house at Winneba.

Isaac Nana O. Kwarteng pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Daniel Coffie told the court presided over by Mr Charles Owusu Nsiah that, Mr Desmond Amo Yartey, a student at a private university in Tema is the complainant while Kwarteng is the accused and both were friends in high school.

The Prosecution said two months ago, Yartey met Kwarteng at Winneba who told the complainant that he was looking for work and had no place to sleep.

The complainant took him to his house and later left for school.

The prosecution said on February 25, 2013, the complainant returned from school and detected that the door to his room had been locked and accused nowhere could be found.

Sergeant Coffie said the complainant forced the door open and saw that the items had been stolen and reported the theft to the Winneba police.

The prosecution said on February 27 the accused was arrested at his hideout in Winneba and in his cautioned statement revealed that he gave the items to a fetish priest in Winneba to be sold and the amount used to make some rituals for him to become millionaire.

Sergeant Coffie said the police are looking for the arrest of fetish priest.
