Man fined for stealing electricity cables

Kumasi, Jan 22, GNA- A district court at Ashanti New Town in Kumasi, imposed a fine of GH=A2300 on Mohammed Abuu, 34, for stealing electrical cables worth GH=A2200 belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana.

The convict who claimed be working with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly as a ticket collector, will go to prison for 24 months in default. He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Inspector Isaac Mensah Apenteng told the court presided over by Mr S.K. Achina that on Christmas Day last year, at about 1730 hours, Yaw Boateng, complainant, and Nana Bening, a witness, in the case who reside at Sepe-Buokrom in Kumasi saw thick smoke coming from a nearby bush.

Prosecution said when the complainant and the witness got closer to the nearby bush, they found accused burning electrical cables purportedly to obtain copper wires from them. Inspector Apenteng said complainant and witness arrested the convict with destroyed cables and handed him over to the police at Asawasi. He said Abuu admitted the offence.
