Man fined for assaulting girl friend, facing wee charges

Breman Fosuansa (C/R), Aug. 10, GNA-The Breman Asikuma Magistrate Court on Friday fined a 38-year old farmer from Breman Fosuansa 180 Ghana Cedis for assaulting his girl friend at Breman Asantem. Kweku Boateng pleaded guilty and the court, presided over by Mrs. Andy Adei also ordered him to pay a compensation of 200 Ghana Cedis to the woman, Maame Nkrumah. Boateng would go to prison for three months if he fails to pay the fines and the compensation.

The court, in another development however, remanded Boateng in prison custody to re-appear on August 28, 2008 on another charge of possessing dried leaves suspected to be "wee". Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Gershon Awuyeeh told the court that on July 27, Boateng visited his girl friend, Maame Nkrumah at Asantem, near Fosuansa.

He said the accused sometime in the night with the woman detected that his 30 Ghana Cedis had got missing from his trousers that was hanging in the room and suspected the woman but she denied knowledge about the loss of the money.

According to Chief Inspector Awuyeeh, Boateng became angry, subjected the woman to severe beatings and returned to his village Fosuansa.

He said Madam Nkrumah reported the case to Brakwa Police where she was issued with police medical form to attend hospital after which he was treated and discharged. Chief Inspected Awuyeeh said when police arrested Boateng at Foosuasa the next day and he was searched, a dried leaves suspected to be "wee" were found in his pocket. He said the leaves had been sent to Police Forensic Laboratory for examination.
