Man arrested for connecting power illegally

Hohoe, Aug 01, GNA - A 28 year-old painter apprentice, Henry Bulley, was on Monday arrested by a task force of the Hohoe District Directorate of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and handed over to the police for illegally tapping electrical power.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kwabena Antwi-Bosiako, the Hohoe District Police Commander, said Bulley was arrested upon tip-off for illegally enjoying free electricity power since 2002.

His house, house number TO1-L004 at Tokoni, a suburb of Hohoe, was disconnected and metre removed in 2002, according to ECG records. Bulley connected his room direct from the metre board into his room at the expense of other tenants of the house. Mr Devine Vuha, Hohoe District Director of ECG, told the Ghana News Agency in a telephone conversation that financial assessment of the power consumed by Bulley was being computed. He estimated that Bulley might have consumed more than two million cedis, taking into account electrical appliances he used. Mr Vuha appealed to the public to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of such recalcitrant citizen. 01 Aug 06
