Labourer remanded for defilement

Cape Coast, March 08, GNA - A 53-year-old labourer who defiled a 14-year-old primary six pupil at Ankaful near Cape Coast and told her she would die if she disclosed it to anyone was on Tuesday remanded by a circuit at Cape Coast.

Issaka Kanjagah pleaded not guilty and would reappear on Wednesday March 22.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Grace Sarfo told the court on September 19 last year, Kanjagah bought some charcoal from the girl and asked her to come for the money later.

When the victim went to collect the money, his daughter told her that he was resting in an uncompleted building nearby so she went there to collect the money.

He pushed her to the ground and sexually abused her. Kanjagah gave her 5,000 cedis and warned her not to tell anyone about her ordeal otherwise she would die but the girl told her grandfather who reported the matter to the police and Kanjagah was arrested. Kanjagah however jumped police inquiry bail and was arrested in Accra last weekend.
