Labourer in court for defilement

Kwame Appiah, a labourer, on Tuesday, appeared before the Kade District Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old Junior High School (JHS) pupil, resulting in pregnancy.

The plea of Appiah was not taken, and the court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu remanded him into prison custody until July 13.

Giving the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector, James Essel, said both the girl and Appiah reside at Kade.

Appiah became sexual partners with the girl about a year ago.

When the father of the girl noticed that his daughter was pregnant, he confronted her and she mentioned Appiah as the one responsible.

Appiah admitted the offence in his caution statement to the police.
