Labourer in court for beating up woman

A 29-year-old labourer, on Thursday, appeared before the Juaso Circuit Court for allegedly beating up a woman at Yawkwei in the Asante-Akim South District.

Emmanuel Ansah’s plea was not taken by the court presided over by Mr. Alex Obeng, but he was, however, granted bail in the sum of GHc4,000.00 with two sureties to appear in court again on May 8, 2014.

Prosecuting, Inspector Manasseh Obimpe said the accused lives at Enchi in the Western Region, and had visited the parents at Yawkwei on April 3.

Police Inspector Manasseh Obimpe said later that same day, at about 1530 hours, the victim, Grace Appiah, 52, was in her kitchen busily preparing meals when Ansah suddenly entered and without provocation lunged at her.

He mercilessly beat her up, tore her clothes rendering her half naked, as she screamed for help.

The prosecution said some of her neighbours went to her rescue and a formal report was later made to the police leading to his arrest.

He was later charged to appear before court.
