Labourer in court for attempted rape

Alexander Laryea, a labourer, who was accused of attempting to rape a trader in her room at Anyaa was on Wednesday put before an Accra Circuit Court.

Laryea charged with attempted rape, pleaded not guilty.

The Court presided over by Ms Eva Bannerman Williams remanded him into lawful custody to reappear on October 22.

Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sophia Eva Ennim, said the complainant name withheld and the accused person live at Anyaa NIC.

DSP Ennim said on August 3, this year at about 11:30pm, when the complainant was sleeping in her room, Laryea sneaked into her room and began removing her pants and attempted to have sex with her.

Prosecution said the complainant woke and held accused person’s hand. Accused struggled with the complainant and managed to escape.

The following day, the complainant reported the matter to the Police at Anyaa and accused person was arrested.

Laryea in his caution statement admitted going to the complainant house but he did not make an attempt to rape her.
