Labourer defiles a ten-year-old pupil

Kumasi, April 19, GNA - Yaw Amoh, a 28 year-old labourer has been remanded by a Kumasi circuit court for allegedly defiling a 10 year-old pupil at Kotei, a suburb of Kumasi. Amoh pleaded not guilty and he will re-appear before the court on April 26.

Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei, prosecuting, said on April 3 this year, the victim and her siblings were returning from school when the accused met them.

She said the accused, who lived in the same area as the children, led them through an usual route, about 1.5 km from their home. The prosecutor said Amoh made the other girls wait at a different place while he took the victim to an uncompleted building in the bush. The court heard that Amoh forcibly had sex with her after ordering her to undress.

After the ordeal, the accused gave the girl 4,000 cedis and warned her not to tell anybody about it, else she will die.

Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said the girl kept her o rdeal until her mother found an amount of 2,500 cedis on her and after questioning, the girl revealed that Amoh gave it to her.

The parents led the girl to Amoh's house but on seeing them, he took to his heels, the Court was told. He was however, arrested and sent to the Asokwa police station. A medical report on the girl indicated that she had been defiled.
