Kumasi shooting: Father of victim prays for killers to repent

Father of the security man who was killed at Bantama says he doesn't care if the perpetrators of the crime are arrested and jailed, he only wants to deal with his loss and pray they repent and find a more decent job.

35-year-old Joe Edusa, a security man, was gunned down at the Ash Hood Hotel in Bantama in what is suspected to be an armed robbery attack.

The Ashanti regional police command arrested one person in connection with the incident on Monday.

In an interview with Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor, father of the deceased, Rev. Dr. Joe Eyison, an Anglican priest blamed the situation on systemic failure.

“Nobody can honestly say that we are safer over here. And if you live in a place where in the past three or so weeks this number of killings is going on, it’s a big problem,” Rev Eyison admitted.

He said even though 35-year-old Joe Edusa is his firstborn child, it does not bother him whether the killers are arrested or not.

“I pray that, those people God will forgive them, that they will repent and find a better way to live their lives,” he said.

In a related development, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu, has indicated he will install CCTV cameras in the metropolis in a bid to tackle crime.

He made this known when he spelt out his vision for the assembly at a meeting on Tuesday. He said the KMA will rely in part on donor support for the initiative.
