Known criminal in Upper West handed 20 years prison term

A man who the Police have described as “known criminal” in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, has been handed a 20-year jail term for armed robbery.

The 23-year-old Wakilu Adams, who is a farmer at Siriyiri, was found in someone’s room with offensive weapons searching through bags at about 2:00 a.m. on September 21.

According to the police, Adams engaged the victim in a fierce struggle and in the process inflicted several cutlass wounds on him.

The victim, who became helpless at a point, shouted for help, attracting neighbours to the scene who helped in arresting Adams.

The police were subsequently called in to pick Adams to the Police station to assist in the investigation.

On Friday, October 11, he has arraigned on robbery charge at the Wa Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Baah Forson.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and accordingly sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the Regional Police Command cautioned potential perpetrators of various crimes to desist from their criminal activities or face the full rigorous of the law.
