The woes of Azuzie Mensuma, 22, one of the three suspects arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command in connection with the robbery on the Asante Mampong/Kofiase road, have deepened.

This follows the retrieval of a picture in which he is nicely dressed in police uniform and confidently holding an AK47 assault rifle. The police, apart from investigating the robbery incident, are also asking Mensuma to produce the police uniform and the gun, ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO, told DAILY GUIDE.

He mentioned the other two suspects in the robbery incident in which the hoodlums made away with valuables including cash as Bayor Aberiga, 33, and 24-year-old Gmituo Bogere.

According to the police PRO, on Friday Mensuma and his accomplices robbed some commuters on the Mampong/Kofiase road.

He said whilst robbing their victims, a taxicab popped up on the scene and the robbers ordered the driver to stop but he refused and ran his car over the people on the road, killing Abena Anane, 49, and injuring others.

The robbers then shot into the speeding taxicab and the driver lost control of the steering wheel and rammed his car into a nearby tree, causing severe damages to the vehicle.

The trigger-happy gangsters also fired at two of the victims who were lying on the floor—Kwaku Yeboah, 17, an auto mechanic, and Evans Anane, 17, a Junior High School (JHS) student—killing them instantly.

Fortunately, the police, who were going on their usual road patrol duties, chanced upon the incident.

ASP Tanko said when they saw a taxi in the bush, the police patrol team initially thought it was an accident scene “but the robbers immediately shot into the police car, injuring one officer on board the vehicle, and fled.”

He said the police later picked intelligence that the robbers were hiding at Nkwanta so they rushed there and arrested the trio and after a thorough search of their room, Mensuma’s picture in which he was dressed like a policeman holding an AK47 rifle was found.
