Judge urges public officials to be transparent in the discharge of duty

Elmina, April 6, GNA - Mr. Beresford Acquah, a district court judge at Elmina, on Tuesday exhorted public officials to strive to discharge their duties in a firm and transparent manner, to enhance national development.

The judge, made the call when a 19-year-old girl, who appeared before him charged for a sanitary offence, told the court that environmental officials who arrested her, had later gone to apologise to her, so she thought "the whole thing was a joke".

The court fined the girl, whose name was only given as Gloria, 300,000 cedis or in default, one month in jail, for leaving a container full of garbage behind her drinking bar. She pleaded guilty.

The court ordered that 100,000 cedis out of the fine should be given to the district assembly. 06 April 05
