Judge descend on drivers in Tarkwa

Tarkwa, Dec 27, GNA - Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo, a Tarkwa circuit court judge has warned that henceforth any driver who would be brought before the court for drunk driving will be dealt with drastically.

He said such drivers would have their license seized to ensure sanity and decency on the roads.

Mr. Obeng Diawuo said this when Joseph Cudjoe, a 38-year-old driver, was brought before him for drunk driving and was fined 240 Ghana cedis or in default two months’ imprisonment in hard labour.

The Judge said drivers operating in Tarkwa seemed not to be deterred by fines so the court had decided to seize the licenses of drunk drivers.

Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court that the convict was arrested on December 15 driving under the influence of alcohol. The alcohol sensor was tested on him read 0.180 instead of the prescribed limit of 0.08.
