Judge advises accused to be productive

Mrs Rita Doko, Presiding Judge of the Takoradi Circuit Court A, on Thursday entreated unscrupulous people to channel their energies into productive activities to advance the course of the nation.

Mrs Doko said this when she granted bail bond to two accused persons who, under pretence, almost defrauded Kyei Be Kind Enterprise to the tune of GH¢ 79,400 in Tanokrom, a suburb of Takoradi.

Prosecuting, DSP Richard Boatey, told the court that the complainant, Prince Owusu is a sales person at the Kyei Be Kind Enterprise, a rice and general merchant retail outlet.

He said on Sept 1, the two accused persons: Samuel Akoto and Prince Appiah, approached the complainant and introduced themselves as staff of Edge Company Limited, who have been sent by their boss, Hajia Ramatu, to purchase 600 bags of assorted rice.

DSP Boatey said the two then requested for a pro-forma invoice and promised to come a day after for payment.

Later, according to prosecution, the complainant received a phone call from Hajia Ramatu who requested for a bank account number and promised to send Prince Appiah to submit pay in slips to the complainant for onward delivery of the goods.

DSP Boatey said the complainant later called Hajia Ramatu to find out whether the monies had been paid but was bewildered to learn that no monies had been paid.

The complainant, who then became suspicious, alerted the Kwesimintsin Police to arrest the two at the warehouse whilst loading the goods into a cargo truck.
