Kweku Baako Receives New Death Threats

The Editor-in-Chief of the Crusading Guide, Kweku Baako Jnr has received two more death threats. The threats were contained in a pile of letters he received through the mail last Monday. Mr. Baako has consequently made a report to the security agencies. The first one headed FINAL WARNING stated in part “when your legs and arms are amputated, we shall see which one you will use in walking or which one you will write with.

Worse of all, when your mouth is permanently stitched, we shall see which mouth you will use to express your thoughts for someone to write for you. You portray you are fearless. When we meet anywhere in Labone, the victor will emerge”. The undated Final Warning letter signed by a group calling itself professionals in footnote warned that “we are prepared to resist any attempt by any group, government or otherwise on the lives of the Rawlingses. We are not professional soldiers but can be deadly, just try it”.

The second letter dated July 15, 2002, stated “Honourable, I take this opportunity to write to you this letter. Sir I have been following with keen interest your utterances against the former President, J.J. I would like to point to you that you will soon perish together with those who paid you for the horrible assignment. Your end has come!

It continued, as a journalist, what is expected of you is to talk of the present hardships. You have been given huge sums of money so you don’t feel it. A couple of words used are unprintable but another portion stated “Salaries are paid in the second month, instead of pay-day. You sit with your wide eyes looking. These things did not happen in the Rawlings era. You are foolish to insult the person who came to redeem the country from ruins. You will soon find yourself in your grave. Believe me to be. You are joking. I should think your cup is full. Enough is enough.

The name underneath the second letter has been withheld for restraint reasons. Special aide to ex-President, Victor Smith is currently on trial in connection with a letter threatening Kweku Baako.
