Husband jailed six years for causing harm to wife

Akyem Swedru (E/R), Jan 13, GNA- The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Friday, sentenced Charles Kwadwo Yeboah, a 57-year-old unemployed man to six years imprisonment in hard labour for causing harm to his wife. Police Chief Inspector Alice Appiakorang told the court presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that the complainant, Akua Prah, a 38- year-old trader and Yeboah were married couples living at Akyem Achiase in the Birim South District.

She said for sometime now, Yeboah had been threatening to kill his wife over the least marital misunderstanding between them.

Police Chief Inspector Appiakorang said on December 28 last year at about 2030 hours, a similar misunderstanding ensued between them and Yeboah threatened to kill the wife for allegedly threatening to divorce him.

Akua took her husband's threat lightly and retired to bed and about 0130 hours while she was asleep, Yeboah stabbed his wife with a pair of scissors in the abdomen and later used a hammer to hit her on the head several times.

The prosecutor said Akua attempted to ran to town to inform her father but she fell down unconscious on the way and was later rushed to the Akyem Oda Government hospital where she was admitted for five days. Yeboah reported himself to the police and was arrested and detained and later charged with the offence.
