The Juaso Circuit Court has sentenced a 29-year-old herbalist to six months imprisonment for attempting to escape from lawful custody.

Akwasi Ofori, who pleaded guilty to the offence was being escorted to police cells on other offences when he attempted to escape, but was re-captured after a hot chase.

Police Detective Inspector Princeton Peasah Darkwah, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mrs. Veronique Manfort that the complainant, General Lance Corporal, Emmanuel Cobbina was a police officer stationed at Dwease, where the accused was arrested.

He said the accused was already in detention being prepared for court on charges of causing unlawful harm, unlawful damage and threat of death.

On September 4, at about 1700 hours he was taken to the office of the District Police Commander, Superintendent Gordon Opoku-Koduah, as part of the investigations and when he was being escorted back to the cells, he jumped over a flower hedge and took to his heels.

Prosecution said with the help of other police officers and some members of the public, the convict was pursued and arrested at a spot about two kilometers from the Police Station.
