Handcuffs teacher grabbed

The Mampong Police have apprehended Mohammed Larry, a teacher standing trial at Ejura Magistrate Court, barely 24 hours after the suspect escaped with handcuffs.

Mohammed, who was on the run, was arrested by the police around the Mampong Government Hospital around 12 noon on Wednesday, DSP Abdulai Iddrisu, the Mampong Municipal Police Commander said.

Speaking with DAILY GUIDE on phone, the police capo said diligent work by the police who acted upon tip off led to the apprehension of the suspect who had escaped from the police on Tuesday afternoon.

Mohammed, after leaving the Ejura Magistrate Court on Tuesday, feigned that he wanted to attend to natures call in a nearby bush; a request which was obliged.

The policeman then opened one of the cuffs on the hand of the suspect so that Mohammed could conveniently ease himself, only for the suspect to escape through the bush to the chagrin of the policeman.

DSP Abdulai said the police at Mampong did not rest but started a wild search around Ejura and its surrounding areas “and this led to the swift arrest of the teacher”.

He said Mohammed who escaped through the bush had managed to leave Ejura but upon reaching Mampong, the police managed to nab him to face the law.

According to him, Mohammed is now firmly in police grips, adding that the suspect together with his three other accomplices who are standing trial on charges of conspiracy and stealing would be back in court on June 19.

The four suspects allegedly have been faking ‘ghost’ names to collect monthly salary from government. Their heinous activity was finally uncovered, leading to their arrest.
