The Hamilton police have confirmed the death of a young Ghanaian woman, who died as a result of a shooting incident on July 11, 2025.

A post shared on X on July 12, 2025, indicated that the police responded to reports of gunshots in an area called King and James Street shortly before 5:30 pm.

Upon arrival, they found one deceased female and one male who was transported to the hospital with no life-threatening injuries.

The report further indicated that the Hamilton police are actively investigating the incident and have identified a white suspect who fled the scene shortly after the shooting.

It added that the police have since called on the public to assist with investigations.

In a video that accompanied the post, a police officer believed to be a Hamilton officer said, “Shortly before 5:30 p.m. today, police responded to reports of gunshots in the area of King and James Street. The police arrived en masse, and we located two victims: one female who was deceased on the scene, and one male who was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Responding to whether the victims were targeted, the officer said no information has so far suggested that the victims were targeted at that time.

“We have no information to suggest that at the time. Our homicide team is on scene, and this is a very preliminary part of the investigation, as you can understand, and we don't have that information right now," he stated.

“The only description we have right now is a white male who was last seen fleeing northbound on James Street on foot,” he said, concerning the suspect.
“We're currently appealing to our community to see if they have any video from between 5:00 and 6:00 that, if they could share it with the police, would be greatly appreciated,” he added.
