Group demands reward for arresting armed robbers

Ekumfi Eyisam (C/R), Nov. 10, GNA - A group of men from Ekumfi Eyisam and nearby communities who arrested a gang of armed robbed who attacked and robbed traders of their monies on Accra-Mankessim Highway on Nov. 5, have appealed to the government for recognition and reward for the feat.

Mr Yaw Enoch, spokesman for the group, said such recognition from the government would go a long way to encourage people to risk their lives to save their fellow citizens in similar circumstances.

Mr. Enoch said only Cabana Niamey, a member of the group who was hit by a bullet from a gun of the robbers has been given one million cedis by the Central Regional Consultative Council after several appeals to the Council.

According to him, when news got to Eyisam at the early hours of November 5, that some armed robbers had blocked the highway near Eyisam and robbed traders who were going to do business At Mankessim Market, he mobilized some men from the town, Abontsin, Bogyano, Ekotsi and Dunkwa to face the robbers.

Mr Enoch said with the display of exceptional bravery the group managed to arrest four of the robbers after exchanges of fire. He said the Police Administration had promised to reward the group for the bravery and patriotism of its members and said several appeals to the police for the reward had not yielded any result.
