Goldsmith trainee jailed three years for stealing 50 Grams of Gold

Kumasi, April 18, GNA - Nana Yaw Boakye, 20, an apprentice goldsmith was on Thursday jailed three years for stealing 50 grams of gold valued GH¢1,500 belonging to Austria Casting System Company Limited at Dichemso in Kumasi.

Boakye pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea. Two other goldsmiths in Kumasi, Nana Asabre and Kwame Gyamfi were granted bail in the sum of GH¢2,000 with one surety each for dishonestly receiving some of the gold.

Gyamfi has produced all the 5.32 grams he purchased while Asabre surrendered 3.6 grams as part of the unspecified quantity he bought. They will both re-appear in court on April 28. Police Chief Inspector Appiah Kubi told the court presided over by

Mr. Ernest Yao Obimpe that in November last year an official of the company reported to the police that 50 grams of gold kept in a box at the workshop had been stolen.

He said upon a tip off, Boakye was arrested at Krofrom, a suburb of Kumasi and he led the police to Asabre and Gyamfi as those who bought the stolen gold from him. The police are yet to find the remaining 32.6 grams of gold valued GH¢6,900.
