Galamsey operator remanded for murder

Sekondi, June 11, GNA - A Sekondi magistrate court on Monday remanded Nana Effah, a 22-year-old galamsey operator for murder. He pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Joseph Hedidor told the court presided over by Mr Tsatsu Azumah that the victim Kwamina Apoko, 35, was a deaf and dump farmer and lived at Mpohor in the Western Region. He said there was a long standing dispute between both men and on May 3, this year around 19:45 hours, the suspect met the deceased on the street of Mpohor and Apoko allegedly threw a stone at Effah. The prosecutor said Effah became annoyed at Apoko's behaviour and engaged him in a fight, but onlookers separated them. Inspector Hedidor said soon after the separation, both men went their different ways but Effah chased the victim and engaged him in another scuffle. During the fight, Apoko, fell, hit his head on the road and became unconscious. The prosecutor said the Apoko was rushed to the Mpohor Health Centre but he died soon on arrival and Effah was arrested and charged with the offence.
