Four young men in Bongo arrested for allegedly smoking India Hemp

Bongo, (UE) Dec.11, GNA - Four Young men in the Bongo District in the Upper East Region have been arrested for allegedly smoking India Hemp. They are, Sunday Azaba, 21, lorry station attendant, Mbabila Awanga 24 years, trader, Dabi Akembi, alias Kwafo Dedi, 20 years, a student and Awine Ayamba, 20 years, unemployed.

Narrating the incident to the GNA in Bongo, the District Commander, ASP John Anani explained that on November 27, during the inauguration of the Bongo Rural Bank, they had a tip-off some young men were smoking Indian hemp on the rocks behind the bank.

He said the officers who went to investigate complaint arrested the men. He said even though they were not seen smoking on the spot a search on them revealed eight wrappers of Indian Hemp in the pockets of one of the men, Dabi Akembi.

He said they would be arraigned at the Bongo Magistrate Court. ASP Anani said the Hemp had been forwarded to the Police laboratory for testing.

He warned hemp smokers, particularly the youth, that the Police would deal with them when caught. He advised them that smoking of Indian hemp had serious repercussions on human lives and could even lead to mental health problems. 1
