Fisherman in police custody for murder

Funko (W/R), May 4, GNA 97 A 30-year-old fisherman, Kojo Antobam, is in the grips of the Kwesimintsim police for allegedly murdering 20-year old Kwame Kum.

The Kwesimintsim Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ben Ofori Acquah told the GNA in Takoradi, on Tuesday. He said on April 30, 2011, Joseph Rafael Sika Yena and Kwobena Mensah, both residents of Funko, arrested the suspect, one Antobam a fisherman, to the Kwesimintsim police station for allegedly assaulting the deceased Kwame Kum, which resulted in his death. ASP Acquah said the two complainants alleged that the suspect had beaten the deceased mercilessly on April 25 at about 17:00 hours and that after the assault, the deceased complained of abdominal pains and was rushed to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital for treatment and but was subsequently admitted.

The Crime Officer said the deceased died five days later at the hospital and the complainants therefore, arrested the suspect and brought him to the police station. ASP Acquah said the suspect could only be charged after the post mortem result is known to ascertain the cause of death. He said for security reasons the suspect is in police custody assisting the police in their investigations. 4 May 11
